My Financial Career is a 1962 Canadian animated short film directed by Gerald Potterton .

action

One man admits that entering a bank and doing banking in general can quickly get him off his feet. One day he went into a bank to open an account. On this he wanted to deposit $ 56 and later $ 50 a month. Because he thought that this was so common, he first wanted to speak to the manager "alone", who therefore considered him a detective and later a millionaire's son. When the man stated that he wanted to open an account and deposit $ 56 on it, the manager immediately referred him to one of the clerks.

Here the man opened an account. To make himself important in front of the other customers, he then filled out a check with which he wanted to withdraw six dollars from the account he had just opened. In his mind, however, he wrote $ 56 on the check. When the clerk at the counter asked him if he really wanted to withdraw all the money, the man couldn't go back without losing face and had all the money on his account paid out. Defeated, he left the bank and now thinks that he has never stepped into a bank since: He collects his notes in his jacket pockets and the coins in his stockings.

production

My Financial Career is based on Stephen Leacock 's short story of the same name , which appeared in Leacock's collection of humorous stories, Literary Lapse , in 1910 . To a large extent, the original was taken verbatim into the film.

The film's narrator is Stanley Jackson .
