My Melody

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My Melody ( Japanese マ イ メ ロ デ ィ ー , Mai Merodi ), also called Mai-Melo ( マ イ メ ロ ), is a fictional character from the Japanese company Sanrio in the form of a rabbit.

The figure My Melody is the stylized representation of a small white rabbit, of which often only the head is shown. She wears a pink hood, which is based on the hood of the fairy tale character Little Red Riding Hood. Similar to Hello Kitty and numerous other products, the figure is a typical example of the Japanese kawaii culture. It is protected as a trademark and is distributed under license.

The brand experienced its great boom in the mid- 1990s , when Japan gradually recovered from the recession and mothers who had grown up with My Melody increasingly bought products for their own children. Older teenagers are also fascinated by it and it is still gaining popularity among large sections of the population.
