from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Myele Manzanza (* around 1988) is a New Zealand jazz and fusion musician ( drums , keyboards, composition ).

Live and act

Manzanza grew up in Wellington in a family of musicians; his father is the percussionist Sam Manzanza from the Congo, who taught him African rhythms and played in his Afrobeat band . At the age of 14 he switched to drums. He became internationally known as the drummer of the psychedelic soul trio Electric Wire Hustle , of which he was a member until 2013. In 2010 he took part in the Red Bull Music Academy London (he is documented in different constellations on the resulting sampler). He also worked with the Benny Tones , Funkommunity and Ross McHenry . In 2014 he toured Europe with Theo Parrish .

In 2013 Manzanza released his debut album One under his own name , which was produced in-house and heavily reworked on the computer and presented a mixture of sound collages, electronica and beats that are popular on the dance floor. A live album followed in 2016 with OnePointOne , which he recorded with a trio, string quartet and vocalist and which "impressively demonstrates his skills as a band leader and live drummer". 2019 appeared with A Love Requited at First World his third album, which will present its "impressive" compositions with multiple horns and "an excellent band." He also worked with the Adelaide Symphone Orchestra and with Marcus Strickland .
