Myomers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The myomere (also called myokomma or in the German muscle segment ) is a muscle segment (segment) in the trunk muscles of the chordates , the arthropods and the annelids . The myomers (myocommata) are connected to one another by tendons or tendon plates (myosepta).

In the chordates, the myomers can be seen particularly clearly in the trunk muscles of the lancet fish , hagfish , lampreys and fish. Myomers can also be seen in the abdominal muscles of mammals ( rectus abdominis muscle ).

The word comes from the Greek mys ("muscle") and meros ("part").
