The Réserve écologique J.-Clovis-Laflamme is a protected area established in 1991 on an area of 1015 hectares in the south of the Canadian province of Québec in the county of Le Domaine-du-Roy .

It is located in the municipality of Saint-Edwidge , southwest of Lac Saint-Jean , about 30 km southwest of Roberval . At the same time, it is located in the so-called zone d'exploitation contrôlée de la Lièvre , an area of more or less controlled exploitation of mineral resources.

It represents and protects the forests typical of the Hautes Collines de la rivière Trenche , the high hills of the Trenche river , where the yellow birch predominates.

The area, which rises from northeast to southwest, reaches a maximum height of about 470  m above sea level. Vertically sloping valleys surround the area. The Precambrian subsoil consists of migmatite , on which tillite was deposited during and after the last ice age . Of rock and rock penetrated Podsol circumscribes the bottom of the region which is thinner at higher altitudes.

In addition to the yellow birch, there is the Banks pine ( Pinus banksiana , French pin gris ), but also black spruce ( Picea mariana ) and American trembling aspen and gray alder ( French aulnaie américaine ). The majority of the trees are only around 30 to 50 years old because of the forest fires, but there are also older trees in some protected locations and near the lake.

Moose, hare and collar grouse are typical representatives of the regional fauna.

The name of the area goes back to Monseigneur Joseph-Clovis Kemner Laflamme (1849-1910) from Saint Anselme, who is considered the first Canadian-French geologist. He taught mineralogy and geology at the Université Laval , but he published not only on these scientific fields, but also on paleontology .
