Roberval is a city ( Ville ) and capital of the MRC Le Domaine-du-Roy in the Canadian province of Québec .
Roberval is located on the southwest bank of Lac Saint-Jean at the mouth of the Rivière Ouiatchouaniche . In 1956 Roberval received city rights. The city was named after the French lieutenant general of New France Jean-François de La Rocque de Roberval .
With a population of 10,544 in 2006, Roberval is the third largest city on Lac Saint-Jean after Alma and Dolbeau-Mistassini .
The 2010 open water world championships were held in Roberval .
