Myotomys is a genus of rodents from the group of old world mice (Murinae). The genus includes two types. It is closely related to the lamellar tooth rats ( Otomys ) and is often incorporated into the same genus.

The head body length of these animals is around 13 to 16 centimeters, the tail is around 7 centimeters long. Their fur is gray on the back and white on the belly, the feet are light brown. Their physique is stocky, their heads rounded.

These animals live in southern Africa , South Africa and Lesotho . Their habitat are rocky regions, they can be found in regions over 2600 meters high. They use caves in the earth or crevices in the rock as shelter and feed on plants.
