The Myriad Group AG (until March 2009 Esmertec AG ), based in Dübendorf, is an internationally active Swiss software manufacturer . The company specializes in software platforms , applications and services for mobile network operators and communication device manufacturers and sells a Java Virtual Machine for mobile phones .

The company was founded in 1999 as Esmertec AG by a spin-off from Oberon microsystems . This in turn is a spin-off from ETH Zurich . The company is listed on the Swiss stock exchange since 2005, SIX Swiss Exchange listed and is a founding member of the of Google launched the Open Handset Alliance .

In March 2009 Esmertec took over the French competitor Purple Labs by means of a share swap. At the same time the company name was changed to Myriad Group AG. Esmertec employed around 450 people at the time of the takeover and had 2008 sales of 40 million US dollars. According to the company, the merger created the largest European provider of mobile phone software with sales of 125.8 million US dollars and 800 software engineers.
