The Open Handset Alliance ( OHA ) is a consortium of 84 companies (as of February 2016). The aim of this consortium is to create open standards for mobile devices . Members of the consortium are not permitted to manufacture devices that use a version of the software that is incompatible with Android .

history

On November 5, 2007, Google founded the Open Handset Alliance with 33 partners. Founding members include software companies , cell phone manufacturers , network operators , chip manufacturers, and marketing companies . The Android operating system is the main product of the Open Handset Alliance. It is an open source system based on Linux . The first commercially available device based on the work of the Open Handset Alliance was the HTC Dream . It was approved by the FCC on August 18, 2008 . Since then, various manufacturers have offered devices with Android.
