China Mobile Ltd. ( Chinese  中國 移動 有限公司  /  中国 移动 有限公司 , Pinyin Zhōngguó yídòng yǒuxiàn gōngsī ) is the world's largest mobile operator in terms of customer numbers and is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange .

The company was founded in 1997 under the name China Telecom (Hong Kong) ( 中國電信(香港)有限公司  /  中国电信(香港)有限公司 , Zhōngguó Dianxin (Xiānggǎng) yǒuxiàn Gongsi ) into the commercial register registered in Hong Kong and this changed in 2000 to China Mobile (Hong Kong) ( 中國 移動 (香港) 有限公司  /  中国 移动 (香港) 有限公司 , Zhōngguó yídòng (Xiānggǎng) yǒuxiàn gōngsī ). China Mobile is a subsidiary of the China Mobile Communication Corporation (CMCC, 中國 移動 通信 集團公司  /  中国 移动 通信 集团公司 , Zhōngguó yídòng tōngxìn jítuán gōngsī ), whose head office is in Beijing .

According to its own information, the Chinese company had more than 887 million customers in 2018. In terms of customer numbers, this makes the Chinese company the largest wireless operator in the world. The approximately 182,000 employees generated 2010 sales of almost 72 billion US dollars and a profit of 11.656 billion US dollars.

With a brand value of 47 billion US dollars, China Mobile was the tenth most valuable brand in the world in 2012.

The main shareholder is the state-controlled China Mobile (HK) Group Limited , which indirectly held a 74.57 percent stake in the company at the end of 2006 through its wholly-owned subsidiary China Mobile Hong Kong (BVI) Limited . The remaining shares of 25.43 percent were held by public investors.

The company was the official partner of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing .
