CLP Group ( CLP ) is a Chinese utility company with headquarters in Hong Kong . The company is listed in the Hang Seng Index .

The company produces and supplies electricity to its customers. CLP supplies around 80 percent of Hong Kong's residents with electricity. In addition, customers in Australia and on the mainland in China are supplied with electricity.

Among other things, the company is building a wind farm in Gujarat , India .

history

The company was founded in 1901 and started under the name of C hina L ight and P ower Company .

In 1903 the company's first own power station was inaugurated: Located on Chatham Road in the Hunghom district, it generated 75 kW. From 1919, electric street lighting in Kowloon was operated by CLP.

The cooperation with the People's Republic of China began in 1979 with the networking of the CLP network and the power grid of Guangdong Province . In 1985 the construction of a 1.968 MW pressurized water reactor in Daya Bay began as part of a joint venture with the Guangdong Nuclear Investment Company . The reactor opened in 1994.

In 1996, in a joint venture with the Taiwan Cement Corporation, a 1,320 MW coal power plant was built in Taiwan and entry into other Pacific markets began. This expansion continued with the acquisition of Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO) in Thailand in 1998, Yallourn Energy in Australia and Gujarat Paguthan Energy Corporation Private Limited (GPEC) in India .

In 1998, CLP Holdings was founded as the listed parent company of the group .
