Ping An Insurance ( Chinese  中国 平安 , Pinyin Zhōngguó Píng'an or 平安 保险 ) is a Chinese insurance and financial services company based in Shenzhen . The company's full name is Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd.

With a turnover of 141.6 billion US dollars and a profit of 13.9 billion US dollars, the company is the 10th largest company in the world (as of 2018) and the world's largest insurance company according to Forbes Global 2000 . The public company had a market capitalization of US $ 181.4 billion in early 2017 and is part of the three most important Chinese stock indices, the Hang Seng Index , Shanghai Composite and CSI 300 .

Ping An Insurance was founded in 1988 as an insurance company. The company is also active in the financial market and as an investor. It has branches in China nationwide and is also active internationally. The company holding company includes the companies Ping An Life Insurance Company of China , Ping An Property & Casuality Insurance Company of China , China Ping An Insurance Overseas (Holding) and Ping An Trust & Investment. Ping An acquired a stake in Fortis Investment Management and in 2010 acquired the Shenzhen Development Bank, which is now called Ping An Bank. Both were losing deals. In 2008, the subsidiary Ping An Technology was founded, which deals with artificial intelligence.

In 2017, the company moved to its new headquarters in the Pingan International Finance Center in Shenzhen, which is one of the tallest buildings in the world at 599 meters .

Innovations include computer software called the Superfast Onsite Investigation System , which can measure accident damage using images. In addition, a consumer loan, which identifies a person using facial recognition and assesses their risk.
