The Wharf was founded in Hong Kong in 1886 on the initiative of Sir Catchick Paul Chater and Jardine Matheson under the company name The Hongkong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company, Limited ( chin.香港 九龍 碼頭 及 貨倉 有限公司 / 香港 九龙 码头 及 货仓 有限公司, in short: 九龍 倉 / 九龙 仓) founded. Ruled by Jardine Matheson, the company operated shipyards and department stores in Hong Kong harbor for a long time.
When Jardine in 1980 its participation in The Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company sold, the company came under the control of Hong Kong's major shipowner Sir Yue-Kong Pao , who hosted it for business again and in his current name in 1986 The Wharf (Holdings) Limited was .
He also brought his stake in the conglomerate Wheelock and Company , also controlled by him , which still holds 48% of The Wharf's share capital .
The Wharf today
Today, the development and operation of residential and commercial properties form the core of the company. In Hong Kong , Harbor City and Times Square represent the company's largest real estate investments.
