The Galaxy Entertainment Group Limited ( Chinese :銀河娛樂集團) is a holding company based in Hong Kong , which mainly casino operates and performs related services. The company operates in the following two segments: games and entertainment and building materials. The Games and Entertainment segment manages gaming facilities and provides hospitality services in Macau . The building materials segment includes the manufacture and sale of building materials in Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China .

The company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and has been part of the Hang Seng Index since 2005 . A significant stake in the holding is held by Lui Che Woo , one of the richest people in Hong Kong.

history

The company was founded in 1955 by Lui Che Woo under the name K. Wah Construction Materials. It was a pure construction company first before diversifying its business. It became the only Hong Kong-listed company to have a Macau casino operating license when it acquired 97.9 percent of the shares in Galaxy Casino SA. This made the gambling industry the most important line of business before the construction industry. Galaxy and the Venetian Macau originally planned to operate their gaming license together in Macau, but both have since decided to operate their gaming businesses separately.
