CSI 300
The CSI 300 (China Securities Index 300) is a share index that tracks the price development on the two largest stock exchanges in China excluding Hong Kong . The price index is made up of the 300 largest and most widely traded A shares in China, i.e. company shares that are traded in the Chinese currency renminbi on the stock exchanges in Shanghai and Shenzhen . Renminbi (CNY) is also the currency in which the index is calculated.
The CSI 300 has been published by the China Securities Index Company since August 8, 2008 , based on a base value of 1000 index points on December 31, 2004.
composition
The public companies in the index are based on the free float of its ( "free float") market capitalization weighted. The largest single value is the Ping An Insurance with 6% . Overall, stocks from the Shanghai stock exchange are represented with 69%, stocks from the Shenzhen stock exchange with 31%.
Companies in the financial sector (36%) have the highest weighting in the index, followed by durable goods (22%) and industrial companies (13%).
To be included in the index, the following requirements must be met:
- Listed on the Shanghai or Shenzhen Stock Exchange for at least three months , provided the daily trading volume is not below the TOP 30 of all A-Shares
- no signs of excessive volatility in the share price or suspicion of price manipulation
- Belonging to the largest 300 A-shares by market capitalization
- Belongs to the most liquid 50 percent of A shares.
calculation
The index is calculated every second during trading hours of the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges (Monday to Friday 9:30 am to 11:30 am, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm local time , UTC + 8 ).
A security mechanism introduced in 2016, according to which the Chinese stock exchanges will close prematurely if the CSI 300 fluctuates by 7 percent, has been abandoned after it came into effect twice during the first four trading days of the year.
