China Railway Engineering Group or China Railway Group ( Chinese  中國 中 鐵 股份有限公司  /  中国 中 铁 股份有限公司 , Pinyin Zhōngguó Zhōngtiě Gǔfèn Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī ) is a Chinese company with headquarters in Beijing . The company was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange on November 20, 2007 .

CREC is the third largest construction company in the world and specializes in rail infrastructure. It builds and operates various railway lines in China and benefits from an investment initiative by the Chinese government. The foundation goes back to 1950. The China Railway Engineering Group Co. has 31 subsidiaries with around 284,000 employees.

The company should not be confused with the Chinese company China Railway Construction .

Activities abroad

At the end of October 2011 an agreement was reached with the Ethiopian Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC) to build a new 317-kilometer section of the largely disused narrow-gauge line from Addis Ababa – Djibouti to Mieso in standard gauge . The costs of 1.2 billion US dollars (USD) are partly financed with a loan from the Chinese government. The line is part of a network of 2,395 kilometers of new railway lines planned by 2015.

In Indonesia , the China Railway Group (CRG) took part in a tender at the end of 2011, which envisages the construction of a 385-kilometer-long coal railway in central Kalimantan with a volume of USD 2.3 billion between 2012 and 2015.

On November 25, 2015, it was announced that the CRG had won the tender to build the 160-kilometer Hungarian section of the Budapest - Belgrade high-speed line for 1.6 billion dollars. This is the first high-speed line to be built by China in Europe.
