China Merchants Bank (CMB) is a Chinese bank based in Shenzhen . In terms of total assets, it is China's sixth largest bank with branches in the 30 largest Chinese cities.

With a turnover of 49.9 billion US dollars and a profit of 11 billion US dollars, China Merchants Bank ranks 12th among the world's largest banks according to Forbes Global 2000 (as of 2017). The bank had a market capitalization of approximately USD 112.4 billion in early 2018.

The CMB was founded on April 8, 1987. In 2002, CMB went public in Shanghai and is now listed in the SSE 50 share index. The company is the fifth largest company on the Shanghai Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of 201.09 billion yuan .

The company is controlled by its largest shareholder with 18% stake, the China Merchants Group , which also includes the logistics company China Merchants Holdings International . The China Merchants Group, in turn, reports to the Chinese Ministry of Communications.
