Daqin Railway is a Chinese company based in Datong . The company is listed in the SSE 50 share index. The name is made up of the first letters of the terminal stations Da tong and Qin huangdao.
Daqin Railway's main business area is the operation of the Datong – Qinhuangdao railway , the freight railway with the largest capacity in the world. It leads from Datong ( Shanxi ) to the port of Qinhuangdao ( Hebei ). China's coal reserves are concentrated in the provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia , which, however, have no access to the Pacific Ocean . As a result, the railway line is primarily used to transport coal .
The second largest freight yard in China is located in Datong, where over 60 million tons of goods were loaded in 2012 alone.
During the all-time highs in coal prices in 2013 and 2014, 440–450 million tons of coal were transported on the Datong – Qinhuangdao railway line. For 2016 only 352 million t are expected.
