The parent company is headquartered in Toyosu, Kōtō , Tokyo and is also present in Europe through subsidiaries with numerous branches, e.g. B. through the German agency Renesas Electronics Europe GmbH with headquarters in Düsseldorf and branches in Dornach and Filderstadt as well as Renesas Electronics Europe Ltd. based in Bourne End / England.

Renesas' popular microcontrollers include Renesas H8 , M16C , SuperH and Renesas RL78 .

history

Renesas Electronics is the amalgamation of the spun off semiconductor divisions of Hitachi , Mitsubishi Electric and NEC . In 2003, Hitachi and Mitsubishi initially merged their semiconductor areas into the new Renesas Technology. The merger with NEC Electronics, which was spun off from NEC in 2002, was completed in April 2010 under the new name Renesas Electronics.

The state-dominated PPP company Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) holds 69.15% of the shares in Renesas Electronics; however, the original companies or their pension funds are still among the main shareholders.

In September 2016 Renesas announced the acquisition of Intersil for 3.2 billion US dollars known. The aim is to focus more on the automotive sector with the increasing trend towards self-driving cars .

Two years later, Renesas announced its intention to acquire IDT for $ 6.7 billion. The takeover was completed on March 30, 2019.
