Oberon microsystems

Oberon microsystems was founded in 1993 as a spin-off from ETH Zurich and is now a stock corporation based in Zurich .

The company originally developed development tools for the Component Pascal programming language , a variant of Oberon .

history

The company Esmertec was founded in 1999 to sell and further develop a Java real-time operating system for microcontrollers developed by Oberon microsystems .

In 2010, Oberon microsystems ported Microsoft's .NET Micro Framework to ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and released this port as open source ( NETMF for STM32 ).

In 2011 the company Yaler was spun off to sell and further develop a relay server developed by Oberon microsystems as a hosted service.

In 2014 Oberon microsystems announced the Limmat project, an expandable platform for Internet of Things gateways.

In 2015, Oberon microsystems launched OberonHAP , a licensable, optimized implementation of Apple's HomeKit Accessory Protocol on the device side. This product, plus corresponding consulting and integration services, represents the company's core business today.

Projects

As a service provider, Oberon microsystems has implemented various customer projects over the years, and since 2000 various projects in the Internet of Things area, for example for monitoring hydropower plants via the Internet ( Alstom Power) or fine-tuning hearing aids via the Internet ( Phonak ).

Trivia

Computer science professor Niklaus Wirth is an honorary member of the board of directors , and business economics professor Norbert Szyperski was a member of the board of directors until his death in 2016 .
