Myshall ( Irish Míseal ) is a place in County Carlow in the Irish province of Leinster .

history

In the center of Myshall on Church Road , surrounded by a cemetery, is the ruin of a pre-Romanesque church that is said to be the successor to a founding of St. Finnian in the 6th century. The church, which was probably destroyed by Cromwell's troops during the reconquest of Ireland (1649–1653), has a narrow, arched granite portal in the west wall . In the cemetery there is a large porthole with two cavities at the end.

Attractions

• To the south of the church is Tobar Bhríde , the Well of Saint Brigid , one of 15 holy springs in the county.
• South of the village is the row of stones The Nine Stones .
• The modeled after the Salisbury Cathedral built Adelaide Memorial Church of Christ the Redeemer has remarkable stained glass.

Personalities

Finnian von Clonard is believed to have been born in Myshall in AD 470. He is one of the most important saints of the Iroschottischen Church and died in 549 AD in Clonard , where he is also buried.
