The sewing machine factory Helvetia AG was a Swiss textile machine manufacturer based in Lucerne .

history

In 1897, the Swiss household sewing machine factory was founded in Lucerne by Fritz Kreis. Swinging shuttle sewing machines were first made. In 1908 the plant was destroyed by a major fire and then rebuilt. From 1912 the sewing machines were sold under the brand name HELVETIA . In the Altdorf branch , HELVETIA's own wooden sewing furniture was made by hand.

The mechanical hand or foot powered sewing machines were produced until the late 1940s. In 1940 Helvetia advertised the new series with the slogan “A friend for life”. The advertising leaflet was designed by the Swiss graphic artist Heinrich Steiner.

It was not until 1947 that Helvetia brought an electric cantilever machine onto the market. The last Helvetia Dominator machines appeared in 1960 shortly before bankruptcy. In 1966 the sewing machine factory Helvetia AG was dissolved.
