Phenylsulfinylhydrazine - Example of an N -sulfinylhydrazine

N -Sulfinylhydrazines ( N -Thionylhydrazines) are organic-chemical nitrogen - sulfur compounds with the structural element NN = S = O and are among the heterocumulenes of sulfur dioxide . They have an angled structure of the N = S = O unit. They are usually obtained by reacting thionyl chloride with hydrazines (sometimes in the presence of pyridine or triethylamine ). Representation by trans-thionylation is also possible. The polar N = S bond enables the sulfinyl hydrazines to be used as versatile synthetic building blocks in addition reactions and cycloadditions .
