NR Acharya

NR Acharya (* 1909 in Karachi ; † 1993 ) was an Indian film director and producer .

Life

He began in 1934 as an employee of the East India Film Company in Kolkata , one of the first sound film studios in India. He later moved to Bombay Talkies , where he made some of the first films under the new leadership of Sashadhar Mukerji . His debut film Azad was followed by the commercial hit Bandhan , both with Leela Chitnis and Ashok Kumar in the lead roles, and in 1941 Naya Sansar , for which Khwaja Ahmad Abbas wrote his first screenplay . From 1942 to 1950 Acharya also worked as a producer . The first film of his "Acharya Arts Prod." Was made in 1942 by Kishore Sahus Kunwara Baap .
