NBN Co 1A ( Sky Muster ) is a commercial communications satellite of the Australian state broadband provider nbn .
It was launched into geostationary orbit on September 30, 2015 at 20:30 UTC with an Ariane 5 ECA launcher from the Center Spatial Guyanais rocket launch site (together with ARSAT-2 ) .
The three-axis stabilized satellite is 202 Ka-band - transponders equipped and is supplied from a position between 135 ° and 150 ° East from remote with 101 spot beams areas and the coastal islands off Australia and areas to the Antarctic with broadband Internet. It was built on the basis of the LS-1300 satellite bus from Space Systems / Loral and has a planned service life of 15 years.
Together with the NBN Co 1B , the NBN Co 1a ensures broadband telecommunications in the remote areas of Australia such as the [Outback] and the islands of Norfolk , Christmas Island and Macquarie Island . The system was originally intended to provide a data rate of 12 Mbit / s replaced the interim satellite service from NBN from which up to now could only provide a maximum download data rate of 6 Mbit / s. The cost of the Sky stitch program will be 2 billion AUD . Nbn acts only as a kind of wholesaler. The connection to the end customers is left to retail service providers. In the meantime, nbn offers retail service providers a data rate of 24 Mbits and a data rate of 12 Mbit / s. A fair usage policy ensures that the same bandwidth is available to all end customers.
