The NMBS / SNCB series 16 is an electric motor series of the Belgian state railways .

The total of eight locomotives put into service in 1966 as the 160 series are multi-system locomotives, i.e. they were designed for traffic with several power systems, with 1.5 kV and 3 kV direct current and 25 kV 50 Hz as well as 15 kV 16 , 7 Hz alternating current. Thus, in addition to Belgium , they could also be used in France , the Netherlands and Germany . Above all, this enabled them to be used on international long-distance trains. In the meantime, the vehicles on international routes have been replaced by more modern locomotives and Thalys multiple units and were last used in Germany.

The last remaining vehicles were taken out of service on March 26, 2010. The locomotives with the road numbers 1602 and 1608 will be preserved as a museum.
