The Nordoberpfalz Center (NOC) is a shopping center in the independent city of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate . It is located in the city center on Macerataplatz.

development

Planning for a shopping center in Weiden began as early as 2010 . The desire for a new major focus in the shopping city was great, especially after the Hertie department store had closed a year earlier . The Portuguese investor group Sonae Sierra signed option contracts, plans for a shopping center became known, the costs were then estimated at 120 million. Sonae Sierra actually wanted to open the gallery in 2014. In 2012 Sonae Sierra gave up the project because it would not be economical. Finally, Fondara AG, a real estate company from Munich , came as a new investor . 2017 was actually the date for the opening of the shopping center, legal disputes with individual residents and difficulties on the construction site such as water ingress delayed the construction project. The center was finally able to open in September 2019. On the day of the opening, around 30,000 visitors visited the NOC.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Nordoberpfalz Center is very large. It extends over the entire northern Upper Palatinate and into the neighboring Czech Republic . This means that around 300,000 people live in the catchment area.
