Noobs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Noobs ( spelling NOOBS ) is an installation wizard developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation , which is intended to make installation considerably easier, especially for beginners in the Linux area.

Noobs is the abbreviation for "New Out Of Box Software". With the support of Noobs, various Linux distributions such as Raspberry Pi OS, Arch Linux, Pidora, Raspbmc, LibreELEC , OpenELEC and other operating systems can be installed on the Raspberry Pi much more easily.

Noobs can be downloaded from the Raspberry Pi Foundation website (as a ZIP file), unpacked and transferred to an SD card pre-formatted with the FAT 32 file system (for Raspberry Pi A and B) or a micro SD card (for Raspberry Pi A +, B +, as well as 2 and 3). After the (micro) SD card has been inserted into the Raspberry Pi, the operating system to be installed can be selected with a click of the mouse. This is then immediately downloaded and installed on the Raspberry Pi. After the installation you can start the desired operating system with another mouse click. This assumes that all peripheral devices such as monitor, keyboard and LAN cable / WLAN are already connected.

From Noobs 1.30.3 you can also install several systems in parallel.
