The locomotives Phoenix and Eagle II of Royal privileged Louis Railway Company (LEG) were steam locomotives the wheel arrangement 1A1.

history

In 1853, LEG put their fourth locomotive into service, the Phoenix, after Adler , Pfeil and Nürnberg-Fürth . Like the Nürnberg-Fürth supplied by Henschel a year earlier, it was short and compact, as the existing turntables did not allow for a larger wheelbase. The freight traffic at the “ Fürther Kreuzung ” with the Nuremberg – Bamberg – Hof railway line could no longer be handled by the horse- drawn trains soon after it opened , and the older eagle was not suitable for such heavy trains. Therefore, in 1857, another locomotive, identical to the Phoenix and also manufactured by JA Maffei , was procured, which was named Adler II . The second occupation of the name was possible because the original Adler was retired in 1857.

A bottleneck occurred in 1861 when a cylinder of the Adler II broke while driving. At the same time, the Nürnberg-Fürth was in Munich for repairs for a long time . Therefore, the Phoenix had to cope with the traffic alone for a long time.

In 1888, the three oldest LEG locomotives still in operation, in addition to the Phoenix and Adler II , the Nürnberg-Fürth , showed such severe damage that they were retired in 1889 and replaced by the new Nürnberg-Fürth II locomotive.
