The Norwegian steam locomotive series NSB Type 12a , NSB Type 12b and NSB Type 12c were three locomotives built between 1891 and 1898 by Sächsische Maschinenfabrik and Dübs and Company for use on various railway lines in Norway. They were tank locomotives that were procured to prevent the locomotives from turning at the terminus.
history
The Norwegian railway lines, which belonged to the state, were administratively independent units at the time . Therefore, locomotives were permanently assigned to these routes. It was not until July 1, 1920 that the Type 12 steam locomotives , which were primarily intended for the transport of local passenger trains, were officially assigned to the Oslo district, although the districts had already existed before.
NSB type 12a
No. 12a 67 (Dübs 2846) was acquired for local trains between Kristiania and Ljan on the Smaalensbane (SB). The order was placed on November 18, 1890. After delivery in October 1891, it was put into operation in November. It was equipped with steering bogies at both ends, had a Bissel frame at the front and an Adams axle at the rear, and was a wet steam high-pressure locomotive.
It was the same design as the NSB Type 11 series of tenders , which was designed and delivered at the same time by Dübs and Company in Glasgow .
The locomotive was decommissioned on March 16, 1952 and then scrapped.
NSB type 12b / 12c
The other two locomotives - 12c 100 and 12b 101 - were ordered from Sächsische Maschinenfabrik on February 23, 1897 and delivered on 1898 with the serial numbers 2311 and 2311. From April 4, 1898, they were on the Kristiania – Gjøvikbanen (KGB) railway line Jaren – Røykenvik in use and had to move the regional trains between Jaren and Røykenvik . In contrast to the 12a 67, both locomotives were composite steam locomotives . This Loc type was developed further, the successor in 1904 as a Type 20 to the Vossebane delivered.
In 1915 the 12c 100 was passed on to the Smaalensbane.
The main difference between the 12c 100 and the 12b 101 was the larger reserves of water and coal.
Both locomotives were parked on October 25, 1951, decommissioned on February 16, 1953 and then scrapped.
