The NTNM library is the joint library for natural science and technology of the natural science and technology faculty (NT) of the Saarland University (UdS) and the Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM). It is available for use by students and members of the university and the INM as well as interested parties.

The NTNM library offers a demand-oriented range of print and electronic media as well as service and consulting in the field of scientific publishing and open access .

founding

As part of a cooperation agreement between the UdS and the INM, it was decided in 2016 to merge the former departmental library for natural sciences and technology of the UdS and the library of the INM under one roof and operate them as a common library. The new name NTNM stands for Natural Science - Technology - New Materials.

Duration

The NTNM library provides print and electronic media on science and technology for use on the library premises and for lending. The focus of the collection is on materials science and nanotechnology. The total inventory of the NTNM library comprises approx. 45,000 media units.

building

The building of the NTNM library was completed in February 2005 after three years of construction under the supervision of Roman Bergem based on a design by Thomas Britz, Alt + Britz architects, Saarbrücken. In 2008 it was awarded the BDA Prize for Architecture and Urban Development in Saarland.

“The building sees itself as a complement to the cubic ensemble around the departments of physics and chemistry with its“ intersecting ”structures. As a kind of "cheer up" the dreary ensemble, the new building is sculpturally composed of almost orange-colored, massive clinker brick surfaces and shiny, tectonically dissolved aluminum surfaces. The new facility is crossed by the inner network of paths on the campus and forms a transit point with its own aura. The interiors with their exposed concrete surfaces and oak shelves are grouped around a four-story light atrium, where the reading areas are also located. "
