The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), ( Māori : Waka Kotahi ), is a state-owned company in New Zealand based in Wellington . The company, which was founded on August 1, 2008 through the merger of Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand as a Crown Entity and is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Transport , operates on the market under the name NZ Transport Agency .

The takeover of tasks resulted from the merger of the two predecessor companies:
- Ensure access to and support of the Land Transport System (all land-based transport routes)
- Planning of the land-based transport network
- Investments in the land-based transportation system
- Management for the New Zealand State Highways network
