Nabis pseudoferus is a type of bug fromthe sickle bug family (Nabidae). The species was not known until the middle of the 20th century.
features
The bugs are 6.5 to 8.5 millimeters long. They have a light brown basic color. A dark central line runs over the head, pronotum and shield . The bugs are usually fully winged (macropter), only in rare cases do they have shortened wings (brachypter) and are therefore unable to fly. The bugs are very similar to the related species Nabis ferus . Their hemielytres , however, are more densely hairy, in particular Nabis pseudoferus has noticeably fewer hairs at the tip of the corium. The populations on the margins of the occurrence differ markedly from the nominate form and have intermediate forms. These are therefore listed as subspecies.
Distribution and Taxonomy
The following subspecies have been described within the species Nabis pseudoferus :
- Nabis pseudoferus azorensis Remane , 1962 - in the Azores
- Nabis pseudoferus ibericus Remane , 1962 - Canary Islands , Madeira , Iberian Peninsula, North Africa, Mediterranean
- Nabis pseudoferus orientarius Remane , 1963 - Cyprus, Near and Middle East
- Nabis pseudoferus pseudoferus Remane , 1949 - large parts of Europe including England and Scandinavia
- Nabis pseudoferus transcaspicus Remane , 1962 - in Iran and Turkmenistan
Way of life
The bugs can be seen all year round. The species overwinters as an imago . In spring, the eggs are laid on blades of grass. From August, the fully developed new generation bugs appear. The bugs hunt various insects, but do not have any specialization. They are quite common in Central Europe, much more common than the related species Nabis ferus .
