Thirst

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nachdurst (also fire ) indicates strong thirst in the aftermath of excessive alcohol consumption . It is often associated with a hangover . Since alcohol inhibits the release of the antidiuretic hormone (ADH), which is responsible for fluid regulation, from the pituitary gland into the bloodstream, polyuria (increased urge to urinate) can lead to a lack of volume and even dehydration . This causes the body to develop a strong feeling of thirst to stimulate hydration. This type of thirst often occurs in the morning after a night of partying, because no more fluids can be absorbed while sleeping, but the diuresis continues. Satisfying your thirst with coffee can be counterproductive, as caffeine increases blood flow to the kidneys, which can also lead to increased urine output.
