As Freienbach-Hurden-Seefeld is the archeological site and a moist soil settlement in Zurich in the area of the district Hurden the community Freienbach in the canton of Schwyz.

Location and findings

The site at the Rapperswil dam in upper Lake Zurich has a circumference of 300 to 400 meters and is in the immediate vicinity of the Freienbach-Hurden-Rosshorn settlement . Their function and organization on this important transport route is therefore of great scientific interest. A well-preserved culture layer provides data that are of particular scientific importance because of their statements on the origin and spread of the Corded Ceramic culture in Switzerland.

UNESCO World Heritage Site and Cultural Property of National Importance

Together with the Seegubel and Rapperswil-Jona-Technikum sites in the vicinity of the prehistoric and historical lake crossings between Rapperswil and Hurden , the remains of the settlement are among the 111 sites with the greatest scientific potential . On June 27, 2011, the remains of the settlement were included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the lakeside settlements in the Alpine region .

In the Swiss inventory of cultural assets of national importance , the wet soil settlements as well as the area of ​​the so-called sea dam with the prehistoric and medieval bridges are listed as class A objects.
