Freienbach-Hurden-Rosshorn
The archaeological site of a wetland settlement in Lake Zurich in the Hurden district of the municipality of Freienbach in the canton of Schwyz is known as Freienbach-Hurden-Rosshorn . The site is part of the lakeside settlements in the Alpine region (UNESCO World Heritage Site) .
Location and findings
The site at the Rapperswil dam in the upper part of Lake Zurich provides early evidence of transport routes between the two shores of the lake and metal finds, which can be interpreted as victim finds in the context of the find. Archaeological records have been made of the course of bridge constructions over several centuries, the earliest of which date back to the Horgen culture . Furthermore, there are early Bronze Age construction phases as well as finds from the Hallstatt and Roman times. The findings are remarkable because, among other things, they provide dendrochronological data on epochs from which no pile dwellings are known. The remnants of the Freienbach-Hurden-Seefeld settlement can be found in the immediate vicinity .
UNESCO World Heritage Site and Cultural Property of National Importance
Together with the Seegubel and Rapperswil-Jona-Technikum sites in the vicinity of the prehistoric and historical lake crossings between Rapperswil and Hurden , the remains of the settlement are among the 111 sites with the greatest scientific potential . On June 27, 2011, the remains of the settlement were included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the lakeside settlements in the Alpine region .
In the Swiss inventory of cultural assets of national importance , the wet soil settlements as well as the area of the so-called sea dam with the prehistoric and medieval bridges are listed as class A objects.
