Seegubel is the archaeological site of a wetland settlement in Lake Zurich in the area of ​​the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The site is part of the lakeside settlements in the Alpine region (UNESCO World Heritage Site) .

Seegubel is the name of a bay on the east bank of Lake Zurich between Feldbach and the archaeological site Centum Prata near Kempraten, northwest of Rapperswil . Remains of stone ax production from the 4th to 3rd millennium BC are considered remarkable. BC, including cuts , pieces with saw cuts, semi-finished products and finished blades that show the manufacturing process. The most common materials include green rock and serpentinite, and flint stones for knives and arrowheads.

The most informative findings of the wetland settlement are dated to a middle phase of the corded ceramics from the transition phase from the Early to the Middle Bronze Age, in " ... the same period as the bridge structures over the lake ... " and a little later than the site at the technical center in Rapperswil. The settlement dates to the " ... same period as the early bridge constructions over the narrow lake between Rapperswil and Hurden-Rosshorn ". The multi-phase site contains distinguishable house floor plans and the cultural layer of a middle phase of the Cord Ceramics as well as a settlement from the transition phase from the Early to the Middle Bronze Age (1490 BC) This settlement phase falls in the same period as the lake crossings between the settlements of Freienbach-Hurden- Rosshorn (CH-SZ-01) and Rapperswil and dates shortly after the Rapperswil-Jona-Technikum (CH-SG-02) site.

UNESCO World Heritage Site and Cultural Property of National Importance

Together with the Rapperswil – Jona – Technikum, Freienbach – Hurden – Rosshorn sites and the prehistoric and historical lake crossings between Rapperswil and Hurden , the remains of the settlement are among the 111 sites with the greatest scientific potential , which were part of the lakeside settlements in the Alpine region on June 27, 2011 were included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites .

In the Swiss inventory of cultural assets of national importance , the wet soil settlements as well as the area of ​​the so-called sea dam with the prehistoric and medieval bridges are listed as class A objects.
