History of the fortress
The fortress Husn al-Him was probably already in place in pre-Islamic times and has been restored and renovated several times since then. In the 17th century it was rebuilt by Omani architects. In 1834 it was renovated by Imam Said bin Sultan. In 1990 it was completely restored. Imams of the Wadi Bani Kharous and the Yaruba dynasty resided in the fortress in the past.
Away from Nachl
The fortress guards the entrance to Wadi ar-Raqim. It lies at the foot of the mountain Jebel Nachl , which belongs to the western Hajar Mountains . The fortress is built in the traditional Omani style and has the peculiarity that it was built on and around an unworked rock. The museum that houses the fort today exhibits historical weapons, furniture and handicrafts.
