The VEB Nachrichtenelektronik Greifswald ( NEG ) was a manufacturer of telecommunications technology and ship electronics as a state-owned company based in Greifswald .
history
In September 1965 the establishment of the company VEB Schiffselektronik Greifswald began . The first production could start in July 1969. On January 1, 1971, the company was renamed VEB Nachrichtenelektronik Greifswald and incorporated into the VEB Kombinat Nachrichtenelektronik . From 1972, as is necessary for all companies, participation in the production of consumer goods began through the assembly of printed circuit boards (mostly for portable radios ).
In 1981 the development of a pocket receiver began, which went into production in 1983.
Up to 1990, up to 2,600 people worked at the site, which also included a vocational school. In 1991 Siemens AG took over the former GDR company and continued the telecommunications sector as Siemens Transmission Systems Greifswald GmbH . In 1993 the GmbH was fully integrated into the group in the ICN division.
Today there are many other companies on the former site.
The island of Görmitz also belonged to the VEB . The GDR communications engineers ran a children's holiday camp on the small island.
