Nachtigallensteig in Königsberg (around 1900)

The Nachtigallensteig was a street in Königsberg (Prussia) .

In 1884 it connected Schützenstrasse with Wrangelstrasse. On the west side was the "student flow" . The many nightingales living in this area gave the path its name as early as the 18th century, which later became official. Elector Friedrich III. took the nightingales under his protection and forbade them to be shot at the threat of a penalty of 100 thalers.
