Nachzill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nachzill (also: Nachzüll, Nachtziel, Nachtselde ) referred to the obligation to give a hunter simple night quarters and food. The hunting dog and the bird (hunting falcon) were particularly mentioned. Nachzill, like the Scharwerk, was one of the services that the peasants had to provide under their rule. It was recorded in addition to the crowd services and the other duties and taxes, for example in the Salbuch of 1416/1440 for each affected farmer.

The German dictionary by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm contains the following explanations:

The night target means the time of one night, also known as nachtzill. Correspondingly, the time of a day is called tagzill. The word is also used and reinterpreted for Nachtselde or, for short, Nachtsel.

The night selde (also: nachtsöld, nachtselle, nachtsell, nachtsel) ( Middle High German : seamselde) means night camp, night hostel.
