Nación Rotonda (Spanish: Roundabout Nation ) is a Spanish website that shows a visualized inventory of the Spanish building boom and the associated real estate crisis with the help of Google Earth images. The self-description reads: “In the past these were all Spanish fields. Visual inventory of the territorial rededication of the past 15 years. "
functionality
The site tries to visualize the Spanish real estate bubble and its consequences to this day. Using a slider on the website, the viewer can see the before and after of individual places and areas of the past fifteen years. The recordings clearly show the standstill of construction projects, urbanizations that have started or roundabout rotundas that lead nowhere, and other bad planning and misconduct. The population should participate in the project. Anyone can add so-called real estate cadavers . Using Google Maps coordinates can be added at which unfinished buildings that stand as a symbol of the Spanish economic crisis, are located. Then a photo can be uploaded. A description of the pictures is not possible, the picture should speak for itself in a before-and-after comparison. A comment function is available, but it is rarely used.
Contents (examples)
If, for example, the Aeropuerto Don Quixote is selected, the changes in the area can be shown using a slider. Another construction project visualized in this way is that of the Velodrome in the Palma Arena on Mallorca . In the context of the 120 million euro project, the corruption scandal surrounding the former handball player and member of the Spanish royal family Iñaki Urdangarin caused a sensation.
Emergence
The pages were put online in 2013 by five engineers and city planners Miguel Álvarez, Esteban García, Rafael Trapiello, Melina Grinberg and Guillermo Trapiello.
reception
The project is now represented in social networks such as Facebook and tumblr. Miguel Alvarez says about his research in advance of the project: "The process of choosing and searching is very funny, but also very depressing." After the site went online, it generated quite a broad media coverage in the Spanish-speaking area. Numerous domestic media such as the daily El País , but also foreign media such as the Bolivian newspaper El Diario reported on the project.
