Nadab (priest)
According to the Bible, Nadab was the firstborn son of the high priest Aaron , a nephew of Moses . He and his younger brother Abihu were their father's helpers in the dedication of the tabernacle (a pre-form of the Jerusalem temple ) and were appointed priests themselves . But as a result of a violation of the strict sacrifice regulations of the 3rd Book of Moses , they are said to have been killed by a fire emanating from the altar.
The younger brothers of Nadab, Eleazar and Itamar , were in his and Abihu public funeral made their successors and received the reminder, no alcohol to drink, the sacred from the profane, the Pure to distinguish from the unclean. So the death of her older brothers became a warning to all subsequent priests from the tribe of the Levites to respect the holiness of God and to keep his commandments down to the last detail ( Lev 10,1-11 EU ).
The priest's son Nadab should not be confused with the later king of the same name .
