Nadezhdy Island ( English ; Russian Остров Надежды 'Island of Hope' , Norwegian Nadezhdyhalvøya ) is a 1.5 km long, ice-free rock island just off the Princess Astrid coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located in front of the north-central side of the Schirmacher Oasis .

The first aerial photographs were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939). The island was mapped and named in 1961 by participants in the Seventh Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1961–1963). The
