The Nagel Road is one of Trier's main shopping streets and is located in the district center . It connects the Fleischstrasse with the Neustrasse .

history

The street was called Webergasse (vicus textorum) until the end of the 17th century . In the early modern times, however, nail smiths increasingly settled here, so that the street was now called Nagelstrasse.

shops

The street is best known for its toy shops, as the Trier toy museum was located here until 2003 . There are also various jewelry stores, a textile store and a pawn shop in the street. In the street there is also an Aldi branch from the 1970s, the oldest branch in Trier.

There are some important cultural monuments in Nagelstrasse . The buildings are mainly from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Also worth mentioning are the house at Nagelstrasse 34, whose facade partly dates from the 18th century, and the house at Nagelstrasse 36, which was planned by Peter Bentz in the middle of the 19th century, but never actually completed. In addition, part of Nagelstrasse is designated as a monument zone . At the corner of Fahrstrasse / Neustrasse at the end of the street you will also find the Handwerkerbrunnen.
