Naim Kassim ( Arabic نعيم قاسم, DMG Naʿīm Qāsim ; * 1953 in Kafr Fila in Lebanon ; also known under the English spelling Naim Qassem ) has been Deputy General Secretary of the radical Islamic Lebanese organization Hezbollah since 1991 .

Life

Kassim was born in 1953 in Kafr Fila in the Nabatäa region of southern Lebanon and began studying chemistry and the French language at the Faculty of Education at the Lebanese University (Université Lebanaise) in 1970, from which he graduated. In addition to his studies, he devoted himself to religious studies. In the field of Shiite spiritual studies (Hausa studies) he reached the highest level. After completing his studies, he taught chemistry in secondary school for several years.

He was involved in founding the Lebanese Union of Muslim Students (الاتحاد اللبناني للطلبة المسلمين) involved and worked on the creation of the "movement of the excluded" (حركة المحرومين Harakat al-mahrūmīn ), from which the Amal militia later emerged, together with Musa as-Sadr . Kassim also helped found Hezbollah in 1982 during the Lebanese Civil War and became Deputy Secretary General in 1991.

Kassim is married and has six children (four sons, two daughters).

Little is known about Kassim's biography in the press; Karim El-Gawhary wrote in the Taz that Kassim's brother was “a well-known DJ” in Beirut, and sees this as an indication of the close integration of Hezbollah into Lebanese society.
