Najat Makki

Najat Makki ( Arabic نجاة مكي, DMG Naǧāh Makkī ; * 1956 in Dubai , United Arab Emirates ) is an Emirati artist. She is a pioneer of contemporary art in the United Arab Emirates.

life and work

In 1977 Makki was the first woman from the Emirates to receive a government grant to study art abroad. She studied in Cairo at the Faculty Of Fine Arts, Alexandria University and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1982 , a Diploma in Fine Arts in 1996 and a Master in Relief & Medal in 1988. In 2001 she did her PhD there in art philosophy. Her works show an influence from Egyptian painters and show different styles, including realism and abstract expressionism .
