Nakayama Gishu

Nakayama Gishū ( Japanese 中山 義 秀 , civil: Nakayama Yoshihide ( 中山 議 秀 ); born October 5, 1900 in Shirakawa ; † August 19, 1969 ) was a Japanese writer.

Nakayama founded the literary magazine ( ) during his studies at Waseda University with Yokomitsu Riichi and others , in which his first story Ana appeared. After graduating, he taught at a middle school until 1933. In 1938 he published a collection of short stories under the title Denko . The following year he won the Akutagawa Prize with Atsumonozaki . With works such as Ishibumi , Seifū Sassa and Fūsō , he established himself as a master of short stories.

After the Second World War, historical novels were written. a. on the samurai Akechi Mitsuhide . Nakayama also wrote a number of essays.

Shortly before his death in 1969, the author converted to Christianity.
