Nampō-shotō

Nampō-shotō ( Japanese 南方 諸島 , dt. "Southern islands") is a name for several Pacific islands or groups of islands, which are located south of the main Japanese islands. The islands are administered by the Tokyo Prefectural Administration.

The Nampō-shotō oyobi sonota no shotō ni kan suru Nihon-koku to Amerika gasshūkoku to no aida no kyōtei ( 南方 諸島 及 び そ の 他 の の 諸島 に 関 す る 日本国 と ア メ リ カ 合衆国 と の 間 の 協定 "between the State and the Japan United States of America via the Southern Islands and other islands ”), in short: Beikoku to no Ogasawara henkan kyōtei ( 米 国 と の 小 笠原 返還 協定 , German“ Ogasawara Return Convention with the United States ”), from 1968 and the Nampō renraku jimukyoku setchi hō ( 南方 連絡 事務 局 設置 法 , dt. "Law establishing Southern Liaison Offices [to the US Government]") from 1952 use the term Nampō-shotō for the northern Ogasawara Islands , d. H. Ogasawara-guntō , Nishinoshima and Kazan-rettō , while the southern two remote Ogasawara islands Minami-Torishima and Okinotorishima are excluded.

The hydro- and Oceanographic Department of the Japan Coast Guard and the National Land Survey Office (Engl. Geospatial Information Authority of Japan ) denote Nanpō Islands the Izu- and all the Ogasawara Islands. The extension is 1200 km from the Izu Peninsula in Tokyo Bay to the southernmost point of Japan, Okinotorishima.
