Nancy L. Wilson (* 1950 ) is the US presenter of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) and author of several theological books.

On October 29, 2005, she was introduced to Washington National Cathedral as the moderator of the MCC as the successor to Troy Perry . The previous election took place at the Churchs General Conference in Calgary , Alberta, in July 2005, where she was the only candidate to receive an overwhelming majority of the electoral vote.

biography

Wilson graduated from Boston University School of Theology with a Rockefeller Fellowship . She received a Master of Divinity from the SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Detroit .

Wilson served in the Metropolitan Community Church for many years. She has served as a pastor in the MCC congregations in Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, and California. In the past she served primarily at the MCC Church in Los Angeles, the founding church of the MCC. Wilson was the youngest person ever to be elected to the Board of Elders in the MCC in 1976. She has served on the Board of Elders since 1976, with a break from 2003 to 2005 .

Wilson lives with her wife Dr. Paula Schoenwether for over 27 years, who she married in the state of Massachusetts , where marriage has been open to homosexual couples since May 2005. Both are working on equating homosexual marriages with heterosexual marriages.

Prior to joining the MCC, Wilson was an active member of the United Methodist Church .

Ecumenism and human rights work

Wilson feels closely connected in her work with ecumenical work and the commitment to human rights. From 1979 to 1999 she served as MCC's Chief Ecumenical Officer and represented the MCC at the National Council of Churches of Christ and at the World Council of Churches . In 1987, Wilson represented the MCC at the bilateral dialogue between the Roman Catholic Churches and the Lutheran Churches in Columbia, South Carolina, where she met the then Cardinal Josef Ratzinger.

She is also active in the engagement of HIV issues, prisoner programs and the women's movement . Wilson is the founder of the MCC Conference for Women in Professional Ministry . In 1979 she attended the meeting of LGBT activists in the White House with President Carter.

Wilson is a guest speaker at the Earl Lectures at the Pacific School of Religion (Berkeley, California) , Harvard Divinity School , Vanderbilt Divinity School , Allegheny College , Claremont School of Theology, and the University of Southern California .
